I have played acoustic for quite some time now, and would like to start playing electric. I’ve always liked the Fender guitars but my friend recommended me a Les Paul. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-Vintage-Mahogany-Electric-Guitar?sku=517536
Should I buy this? I’m on a budget, so I’ll need to buy a decent amp with this and want to try to spend less than 1200.
If you’re on a budget and you say you like Fender guitars then I highly recommend going with a Stratocaster over the Les Paul. Gibsons are definately great guitars, but they cost twice as much as a Strat. If this is your first guitar, just go with the Strat – get yourself a high quality amp, and see how things go. If you really enjoy playing electric guitar then you can buy the Les Paul a little later (when you have $1000+ to spend on just a guitar).
I have a Fat Strat and I love it (although it’s from the custom shop and cost just as much as a Gibson…. but that’s not important, Fat Strats are awsome guitars regardless)…. Still, my favorite guitar of all time is a Gibson…. someday I’ll be able to afford one.
Epiphones are total garbage compared to a Gibson or a Fender. If you are looking for a good guitar that’ll leave you enough money to get a nice amp then you should go with a Fender IMO.

Tommy plays “Guitar Boogie” on a vintage Gibson Kalamzoo guitar from the 1930’s. The guitar was amplified with a ribbon microphone, the same type of mic used in the ’30’s.
The guitar was a gift from a Dutch fan of Tommy’s who has since passed on.
This clip was recorded at a concert in Norman Oklahoma on October 5th, 2008. I put an old time effect on the video at the beginning and end to pay tribute to the old Kalamazoo.

I want a Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage !
Picture: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Acoustic-Instruments/Square-Shoulder/Gibson-Acoustic/Hummingbird-True-Vintage.aspx
It’s beautiful, but I can’t afford a $5000 guitar!
I want to travel the world with my daughter. I want a stone cottage to grow old in over in Europe. I want health, happiness and peace for both my daughter and myself. I want peace for the world. I want freedom from humans everywhere. I want enlightenment. I want my bills to *poof* away along with stress and pain. send them to the land of the missing sox. Obviously my desires are not obtainable. If you save yours is. material things always are obtainable if you want them bad enough.

A closer look at instruments used in mandolin orchestras in the early 20th Century…. Acoustic superpickers Tim May and David Harvey brought out their personal vintage Gibson collections at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on June 27, 2007, for a powerful demonstration of the beauty and enduring quality of these old treasures. In Chapter Eight, May plays a 1917 Gibson “U” Model Harp Guitar. Harvey plays a 1914 Gibson H-2 Mandola. The tune is “Sweet Hour of Prayer”.

SHORT STORY –
Im looking for a good 7 string at maybe 3-500 dollars tops. no ibanez, no schecter and no dean. (dont ask) also please dont reccomend one with a floyd rose.
LONG STORY –
Well I have a 6 string guitar, which I have written a few songs for, and an 8 string guitar, which is absolutely the best guitar I have ever played, even better than any fancy Gibson (i havent played a vintage…) anyway I used to own a dean 7 string, then I sold it and got a schecter 7 string. neither guitar i liked at all, so I got rid of them and bought an ESP 8 string. But, I have some songs that are written specifically for a 7 string guitar tuned 1 step down. I could play it on the 8 string, but it would take a hell of a lot less time to switch a guitar onstage versus retuning the 8 string for the song, then tuning back up. So I am looking for a 7 string that will last me a decent amount of time, and does not cost much. No dean, no schecter, and no Ibanez. Also i have had it with floyd roses, I refuse to play a guitar with one nowadays.
can anyone help me find a good guitar? thanks
bonus question – I saw a video today of a guy playing a 7 string acoustic guitar. Where can i get myself one of those? I am not looking to buy at the moment but it will be useful in the future.
Well most of the brands you said not to mention are thae ones that make most of seven stringed electric. I found some 7 th stringed ESPs. ESPs are pretty good when it comes to 6 strings, but its your guitar and you choose a 7th stringed. Heres a link

In the fourth installment of Reunion Blues’ Vintage Guitars Road Show, the guys hit up Bananas at Large in San Rafael, California.
Highlights include:
* A super-clean Valley Arts Custom Shop Robert Johnson commemorative acoustic guitar from 1995, complete with Robert Johnson accessories and documentation
* A pre-war Gibson acoustic that, despite being heavily modified and bearing the scars of its age, is still appraised in the low thousands
* A 1968 Framus 5/103 Romanze teardrop acoustic
* The first look at the original production prototype of the Peavey T60 from 1977.
