Where can I buy an acoustic guitar that looks old and vintage?

26th October

I dont really care if its not great quality because I just want it to learn a little and play a bit of newton faulkner (:
but i want it to look kinda shabby, indie or perhaps painted?
i live in south wales, (UK) and I dont mind ordering online, but not from abroad. iv lready looked on ebay, no luck. thanks (:
oh and i dont want to spend much on it- about £40 maximum.

There are plenty of genuinely old, shabby looking guitars out there, especially if you’re not looking for a rare vintage instrument and just want a beater to mess around on.

You generally don’t want to buy any instrument online, sight unseen unless you’re very experienced and know a lot about guitars, and can afford to risk your money on an instrument that is not as advertised. And this is especially true of used or secondhand instruments since without seeing it in person you have no idea of the true condition of the instrument.

Check garage and yard sales, pawn shops, and local classified ads for older used guitars. Ask around amongst family members or friends; you never know who might have a perfectly useable but slightly beat up guitar in their attic or bedroom closet somewhere.

How much does it cost to repair a vintage acoustic guitar?

22nd October

I have this old 1970’s guitar, it use to be my mom’s when she was nine, but it has some parts missing, (besides the fact that it NEEDS NEW STRINGS). One of the machine head is missing, and the bridge needs to be replaced. how much do you think it would cost?
This guitar btw isn’t for a nine year old. Its just a regular 1970’s guitar

Replacing a tuning machine is not too expensive although finding one that will match a 30+ year old guitar may be difficult. Replacing a bridge is more expensive and again will depend on whether a stock bridge will work or if one needs to be crafted for your guitar. Probably the two repairs will cost you around $150 if not a little more.

You did not state what kind of guitar it is. It’s up to you to decide if it’s really worth spending the money. Good luck.

i am looking for information on a vintage acoustic guitar simply labeled "the hawk" with a hawk on the head

20th October

it was bought in liverpool england in the 60’s used. it is sunburst, has a diamond similar to the alvarez acoustic guitar logo, it has a perloid/fake perloid picguard, dot inlays, and was made rather cheaply. it was bought for 2 pounds. it has a gold truss rod cover, but that might not be orginal. it has white binding on the body only. the logo on the headstock shows a golden hawk in flight with a scroll underneath it that says "the hawk".

YOU, SHOULD GET A BETTER ANSWER IN THE MUSIC SECTION AND SEE IF YAHOO HAS AN INSTRUMENT COLUMN! GOOD LUCK! ALSO, YOU COULD CALL YOUR NEAREST MUSIC STORE! SOMEONE, THAT WORKS THERE SHOULD HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YA! GOOD HUNTING!!

which guitar to get?

12th October

I have played acoustic for quite some time now, and would like to start playing electric. I’ve always liked the Fender guitars but my friend recommended me a Les Paul. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Les-Paul-Vintage-Mahogany-Electric-Guitar?sku=517536
Should I buy this? I’m on a budget, so I’ll need to buy a decent amp with this and want to try to spend less than 1200.

If you’re on a budget and you say you like Fender guitars then I highly recommend going with a Stratocaster over the Les Paul. Gibsons are definately great guitars, but they cost twice as much as a Strat. If this is your first guitar, just go with the Strat – get yourself a high quality amp, and see how things go. If you really enjoy playing electric guitar then you can buy the Les Paul a little later (when you have $1000+ to spend on just a guitar).

I have a Fat Strat and I love it (although it’s from the custom shop and cost just as much as a Gibson…. but that’s not important, Fat Strats are awsome guitars regardless)…. Still, my favorite guitar of all time is a Gibson…. someday I’ll be able to afford one.

Epiphones are total garbage compared to a Gibson or a Fender. If you are looking for a good guitar that’ll leave you enough money to get a nice amp then you should go with a Fender IMO.
